Kamwokya Outreach: A Pioneering Step in the #SlumPeriodProject

In March 2022, Period Talk Uganda launched the #SlumPeriodProject with its first outreach in Kamwokya, reaching 200 girls in one of Kampala's most underserved communities.

During this event, we distributed 200 reusable menstrual pads, ensuring that the beneficiaries could access a sustainable solution to their menstrual hygiene needs. To create lasting impact, we conducted skills training sessions, equipping boys and girls with the knowledge to craft reusable pads using affordable and hygienic materials. This initiative aimed to address the reliance on unhygienic alternatives and promote self-sufficiency.

The outreach also included sensitization on menstrual health and hygiene, fostering an inclusive environment where boys actively participated. This inclusivity was a deliberate step toward breaking period stigma and encouraging open discussions about menstruation within the community.

Through this initiative, we laid a strong foundation for future campaigns under the #SlumPeriodProject, reaffirming our commitment to ending period poverty and stigma across Uganda’s slums.
