FIGHTING PERIOD POVERTY THROUGH DISMANTLING STIGMA
A period should only end a sentence, having your period shouldn’t hold you back
Raising Awareness
1 in 10 girls in Sub-Saharan Africa misses school while on their period due to lack of access to menstrual products or adequate sanitation. On average, a girl loses 13 learning days of school every school term during her period, and additionally it is estimated that 23% of adolescent girls aged 12 to 18 drop out of school following the onset of menstruation.
Period Talk Uganda proudly pioneered the Speak Up Campaign on Menstrual Hygiene Day, fostering essential conversations about menstrual health and hygiene in order to normalize and destigmatize menstruation. Our campaign emphasizes the importance of openly having discussions about menstruation in the fight against period poverty and stigma. Learn more about our initiatives and how they continue to drive change in communities.
